Preparations for Japan.

I done a lot of preparations for going to Japan, I have gotten my passport, bought a few books.
A lonely planet Japan guide and phrasebook
A Larousse phrasebook and a Random House English - Japanese dictionary.
As well as some new clothes.
I am working on a guide for things I am going to do there, place to see.
As well as learning to read, write and speak Japanese, teaching myself is taking a lot of energy and discipline. I can speak a few words. You think that all these years of watching to fan subs that I would be able to speak more of the language.
I also have a place to stay there in a guesthouse in Ueno...not that far from Akihabara or the main train lines.

Keep practicing! :) And no, watching a fansub does not count as a Japanese language lesson! ;p

Here's a good one...

"Sumimasen..." (Excuse me...)

"Kore-wa," (This thing here,) "Ikura desu-ka?" (How much is it?)

You'll be getting a lot of mileage out of that one, I'm sure! :)

Variation: substitute "Kore-wa," with "Sore-wa," (meaning "That thing there,") if what you're asking about is out of reach. :)

Study, study, study!! :D

I've been watching anime for I think almost 10 years now, and I've learned like no japanese whatsoever from it, haha. Actually there was one show that taught me a little bit, Chobits, but I already forget what I learned there.
The only reason I know a little bit of japanese, is because I took a year of it in high school, then the 2 week japan trip :)
